Mail for Exchange (Nokia Symbian S60-3 and S60-5) support

Top  Previous  Next

mSuite version 5.15 adds support for 'Mail for Exchange' version 3.0 which includes the security features 'Remote Wipe' and 'Password Policy'.

mSuite version 5.10 was the first general release of mSuite that supported devices with Nokia's 'Mail for Exchange' v2.9 client software e.g. Nokia Symbian Series 60 3rd and 5th Edition.

If necessary, the 'Mail for Exchange' client can be downloaded from Nokia's Ovi Store .

mSuite for Nokia 'Mail for Exchange' has the following capabilities

Mail

2 way Mail support.

Mail can also be synchronized on a schedule or on demand or received by push.
Send and receive attachments.
Support for HTML mail.
Support for Notes encrypted mail (Notes ID file must be imported in mSuite and user's mSuite password must be the same as Notes ID password).
Folder filing (note however that you cannot create, rename or delete folders on the device, this is a client limitation).

Contacts

Supports 2 way synchronization of contact information.
Remote directory search to find contact information from Lotus Domino directories.

Note - If you choose to synchronize contacts from Lotus Notes, your existing contacts on the mobile device will be removed.  So make sure that all your personal contact information is included in your Notes/Domino contacts before enabling contact synchronization.

Calendar

2 Way calendar synchronization.
Invitation processing (Accept, Accept Tentatively, Decline).

Tasks

2 Way task (todo) synchronization.

Security

SSL support.
Remote Wipe and Password Policy (requires MfE v3.0 or higher).

Note: The first time the Mail for Exchange client connects (after the security policy has been enabled), the user will be prompted to accept the policy and won't be allowed to connect until/unless they accept it.  The user will then be prompted to enter the device's current PIN.  The default value (provided the user hasn't changed it) is 12345.  Next, the user will be asked to enter and confirm a new PIN/Password which must conform to the rules of the policy.  After this, the device will be able to connect and send/receive mail & PIM data.

If the PIN/Password is entered incorrectly X times (where X has been set in the policy), the device will be "wiped" i.e. hard reset. The user will be warned before the final entry.  The device can also now be hard reset from the mSuite admin console, in the same way as the other devices.

 Limitations

The functionality of the solution is limited by the capabilities of the Mail for Exchange client.  So, for example:

- You cannot create, rename or delete a folder.

- Only one 'Exchange' mail account and calendar is allowed.

- 'Counter proposal' and 'Delegation' meeting notices appear as ordinary email messages - it is not possible to accept/decline them on the device.

- HTML email, folder support, Remote Wipe and Password Policy require Mail for Exchange v3.0 or higher.

The Out of Office function is not supported.

   Enabling HTML mail message bodies

From version 5.16 onwards, MIME email is automatically sent to the device in MIME or HTML format.  In earlier versions, it was necessary to configure this.  Click here for more information.

From version 5.16 onwards, there is an option to Convert Notes Rich Text messages to MIME.  Click here for more information.

   Configuring the MfE client

Install Nokia's 'Mail for Exchange' application onto the device and run it.  Make sure you have version 2.9.158 or later - ideally use version 3.

Create the Profile as follows:

1.Email address: your Domino internet email address (e.g. jsmith@acme.com)
2.Domain: If you are connecting via the CSC, enter your mSuite 'Alias' name. If you do not know your 'Alias', open the mSuite admin console, right click on the database name (immediately below "mSuite Administration Console") then use All Tasks > Generate Provisioning Portal SMS Message The Alias appears after 'Alias': and before 'cdzprov'
3.Username: this is your mSuite account name which will normally be your Domino short name, but it depends on how your mSuite account is configured.  If your Domino account has multiple short names configured, it must be the first one listed in the person document in the Domino directory.
4.Password: this will normally be the Internet password from the person document in the Domino directory.  However, mSuite supports several authentication methods so check which one you are using and then use the relevant password.
5.Access point: choose the relevant access point.

The device will try to 'autodiscover' a server and will fail.  It will then ask you for details about the server.  Please enter the information as follows:

6.Exchange Server: eas.commontime.com (if connecting via the CSC) or
7.Secure connection: optional, Yes is recommended
8.Access point: as above
9.Sync while roaming: optional, No is recommended to avoid high data roaming charges
10.Use default port: Yes
11.You should then set the Sync Schedule to suit your requirements.
12.Optionally, you can also enable synchronization of Calendar, Tasks and Contacts.  If you do this, you will need to set the Initial sync parameter for each of them.
