What is the Chat Server?

mSuite includes a Chat (instant messaging) solution which provides Lotus Sametime™ support to mobile device users.

       Configuring the Chat Server

1.Expand the configuration node in the navigation tree and select Servers and Groups.  The action pane will display the configured servers.
2.Right mouse click the server and select Properties from the pop-up menu.
3.Select the Chat Server tab. It will highlight the currently active template, by default (Default Chat Server Template).  We recommend that you do not change this.  Click the Configuration Wizard button - with the magic wand icon.
4.On the Welcome screen, make sure that the box Run the Chat Service is checked and then click the Next button.
5.On the General Settings page, you can enter a specific Java Directory if you want Chat to use this rather than the Java system installed on the system.  Usually this field can be left blank.
6.The Listener port is the port that the Chat Server is listening on for client connections.  Do not change this from 620 unless you have port conflicts.
7.Sametime Server and Sametime port tell the Chat server how to connect to a Lotus Sametime server.  The port is normally 1533, the host name is installation specific.  If you do not know the information, ask your Sametime administrator.
8.Log level determines how much log information will be recorded by the Chat service.  Leave this set to Info unless you are directed to use a more verbose logging level by CommonTime support team to aid in troubleshooting.  Click Next to continue.
9.On the Timeout Settings screen, do not change the defaults unless directed to do so by CommonTime support.  Click Next to continue.
10.On the completion page, you have the choice of saving the settings as a new template or updating the existing properties.  You will normally update the existing properties - the default settings.  Templates are advanced configuration and you should only use them if instructed by CommonTime support.
11.Click Finish to complete the wizard.
