Adding another mSuite/mDesign server

Any number of mSuite/mDesign Server servers can be configured to use the same SQL database and operate as a single mSuite community.  Having two or more active mSuite/mDesign Server servers is a prerequisite for Load Balancing and Failover.


Adding an mSuite/mDesign server

There are three sets of actions to perform.  The whole process can be completed in just a few minutes:


Install the mSuite/mDesign Server certificate
Install the mSuite/mDesign Server software
Configure the new mSuite/mDesign server


Installing the mSuite/mDesign Server certificate

1.Export the certificate from the original mSuite/mDesign Server server.
2.On the new server, open the certificate store, expand Personal then right click on Certificates and use All Tasks > Import... > Next then click Browse... Set Files of Type to Personal Information Exchange (*.pfx, *.p12) then and select the .pfx certificate file that you copied to this machine and click Open then Next.
3.Enter the password that you set when you exported the certificate.
4.Check the box marked Mark this key as exportable.  This will allow you to backup or transport your keys at a later time then click Next.
5.Select Place all certificates in the following store and make sure the selected Certificate store is set to Personal then click Next and Finish.
6.Repeat the previous two steps for the Trusted root certificate Authorities store.
7.The certificate should now appear in both the Personal and Trusted root certificate Authorities stores.


Installing the mSuite/mDesign Server software

1.Run the mSuite/mDesign Server installer on the new server.
2.On the Setup Type screen, select Custom and click Next.
3.On the Custom Setup screen, select the items to be installed (usually this will be all features) and, optionally, change the Install to and Install Logs to folder locations to suit your requirements.  Click Next.
4.On the Database Choice screen, select Use existing database and click Next.
5.Set Database Server, Database Name and Connect using appropriately and click Next.
6.Click the Install button to begin the installation.


Configuring the new mSuite/mDesign Server server

1.In the mSuite/mDesign Server Administration Console (the one located on or attached to the original mSuite/mDesign server), go to Configuration > Servers and Groups.
2.Right click on the new server, click Properties and then the Connection Management tab.
3.Run the wizard (magic wand) to the right of Default Authentication Server Template.
4.Make sure the Run the Authentication service box is checked and click Next.
5.Set the Authentication method to match your other mSuite/mDeisgn Server server(s) and click Next.
6.Set the Automatic User Creation settings to match your other mSuite/ mDesign Server server(s) and click Next then Finish.
7.Run the wizard (magic wand) to the right of Default CMS Template.
8.Make sure the Run the Connection Manager Service box is checked and click Next.
9.Select the relevant certificate (usually this will be mSuite CA unless you are using your own certificate) and click Next.
10.The settings on the Proxy Settings page will normally need to be the same as those of your other mSuite/mDesign Server server(s).  Click Next.
11.Set the Authentication Server to be your new mSuite/mDesign Server server and do the same for the all the other servers (Client Agent Proxy, mNotes, Chat, Notification,  Data Replication and Exchange Adapter).  The Http Proxy Servers page is only relevant if you are using HTTP Tunneling.
12.Complete the wizard.
13.Go to each of the following service tabs, enabling the relevant services and configuring them as required:
Chat Server
Notification Server
Device Management Server
Client Agent Proxy
File Replication
Data Replication
Exchange Adapter (only enable this service if you are supporting devices with Exchange ActiveSync clients e.g. Apple iPhone, Palm Pre)
Provisioning Portal
14.On the new server, go to Services and Restart the CommonTime Service Control Manager service.
15.Finally, in the mSuite/mDesign Server Administration Console on the original server, go to Administration > Servers and Groups.  Right click on the new server and use All Tasks > Set Master Key.
